As a coach you have a number of responsibilities towards your client. However you must remember that there are no particular tricks and tips that work with all the clients and on all occasions. This is because coaching is type of personal and particular business and there are no tips which can be classified as standard tips for all times. The most important thing to remember is that you must never coach until and unless you have a working relation with your client. This is important because you cannot coach them if they consider you as a stranger who keeps on interfering in their business and personal life.

A coach is not supposed to give suggestions or advices. The job of the coach is not to offer solutions but to help the client in reaching a solution. You must make sure that you client understand this thing.

Your client is bound to get effected by your thoughts and mood. In fact they affect your client in a big way, much more than you can ever imagine. You are definitely going to fail in case you don't believe in your client's success. You must postpone your session with your client in case your mood in not good or you are upset, annoyed or angry over something. This is important so that your session does not become unproductive. You must also tell your client to do the same thing. They should also reschedule or cancel the sessions in case they are upset or angry about something.

You need to be flexible in your approach when you are dealing with people. You are not likely to succeed in case you have a pre- planned rigid approach. You need to change yourself according to situations. You must learn to adopt yourself to circumstances. Things may go on smoothly or an unforeseen event may change everything and force you to change your plans. You need to be flexible while you are preparing your sessions. Always have a back up plan so that you don't appear lost in front of the clients.

It is important to keep contact with your clients even after you have finished working with them. Give them a call on their birthdays or some other special occasion in their life. Check out the effectiveness of your strategy. It is important to maintain contact because you can learn a lot from your clients and their feedback is also equally important.

In order to establish a personal relationship with your client you should make yourself available to them outside the working hours. However it is important to draw a line. Remember, you are not their closest friend or therapist. Make sure that your clients do not call you in the middle of the night. They should not call you for unimportant reasons. So maintain that boundary with your client.

You should be clear in stating the goals that you need to achieve. Also mention clearly the goals that have been accomplished. You must select a particular goal for each session. Concentrate on that particular goal; this will keep your client focused. You should prepare yourself well in advance for each session. Prepare yourself according to the time limit of the session. You may end up losing the client's trust and confidence if you are not prepared well. The client may think that you are not interested in his work or that you are not a professional or that you don't know about your own work!
